Chris Wearmouth

Growing up in the South Peace region, Chris Wearmouth spent youthful days on the area’s mighty namesake; he ate many a cob of corn at Dunvegan. He now spends his not-as-youthful-but-trying-to-be days wandering in Alberta’s diverse wilderness areas and working to ensure their continuance through the Alberta Wilderness Association.

Hydro project to diminish the mighty Peace

Dam poses serious environmental risks to the Peace River corridor
Currently in the process of a joint review by the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (CEAA), the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC), and the Natural Resources Conservation Board (NRCB), Glacier Power's proposal is to erect a weir almost 12 metres high across the width of the Peace River two km upstream of Dunvegan Provincial Park, southwest of the town of Fairview, Alberta. What will follow will be the flooding of productive riparian and valley lands, the alteration of the river's ice regime, and the creation of an obstruction for fish across the entire width of the river.
