Alvin Finkel

Alvin Finkel is professor of History at Athabasca University, where he has taught since 1978. He is president of the Canadian Committee on Labour History and served for 11 years as book review editor for Labour/Le Travail. A prolific author of Canadian history monographs and textbooks, his books include a history of social policy in Canada, Social Credit in Alberta, and the conservative impact on social reform of the alliance of the state and capital in the 1930s. A member of the Alberta Labour History Institute since its founding in 1999, Finkel was responsible for overall direction of a multi-authored history of working people in Alberta, to be published early in 2011, and titled Working People in Alberta: A History.
