Jim Stanford – enthusiastic common sense

posted Nov. 21 - 8:57 am by Tracy K

Jim gave the only useful definition of the economy I have ever heard - the four letter word 'work'.  Jim speaks in common sense - a language that seems to be poorly understood by most economists, news reporters, bankers and politicians. He defined inflation as when prices rise without a true increase in value.  eg.  When stock prices rise without a true increase in value - I wondered if maybe this should be a new word 'stinflation'.

Born in Alberta, he has risen to being insulted by our (former) premier for being an 'easterner', and his 700 word column in the Globe and Mail gave rise to an 1100 word 'rebuttal' in the Calgary Sun.

I enjoyed the presentation very much, and learned a lot - as we often do when someone makes sense.  But I left with the feeling that the people with money "just don't get it" - because their personal goals are 'to make more money' without doing any actual 'work'.
